Visit the Royal Albatross Centre
Book an early afternoon tour at the Royal Albatross Centre, allowing sufficient time to complete the experience before travelling to Hooper’s Inlet.
We recommend choosing an albatross tour that finishes at least 30 minutes before your advertised tour time with Clearwater Wildlife. This allows time for delays, a coffee or snack break, and the scenic drive across the peninsula.
For example, if you are booked on a 4:00pm tour with Clearwater Wildlife Tours, ensure your albatross tour finishes by 3:30pm.
Drive to Hooper’s Inlet (near Portobello)
After your albatross experience, make your way to our unofficial Hooper’s Inlet pickup point near Portobello.
The drive from Taiaroa Head to Hooper’s Inlet is straightforward and takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery on the peninsula.
Our guide will collect you from the designated location and return you to your vehicle afterwards. Note: Hooper’s Inlet pickup occurs 45 minutes after your advertised tour time. For example, if you are booked on a 4:00pm tour with Clearwater Wildlife Tours, you will be collected at Hooper’s Inlet at 4:45pm.

Because this pickup point is located on the peninsula rather than in central Dunedin, guests must have their own transport to travel between the Royal Albatross Centre and the pickup location.
