Our 5-Hour Wild Private Tours include pickup and drop-off at Port Chalmers cruise terminal. Pricing starts at NZ$3250 per vehicle. Maximum of 10 guests per vehicle.

Your guide will meet you inside the Cruise Ship Terminal and return you directly to Port Chalmers at the conclusion of your tour.

Getting from your cruise ship to the Octagon
On your arrival, there will be dedicated buses running every 10-20 minutes from the Port Otago Cruise Ship Terminal into central Dunedin, and the same back again.
The journey is approximately 25 minutes one way.
Buses will arrive at or near our pickup point at the Octagon. Allow 10 minutes walking time from the bus stop to our collection point.
These buses are organised by your cruise ship, and the price generally varies from NZ $20.00 – $40.00 per person return.
The Octagon has several food outlets and cafes where you can buy a snack or packed lunch to eat while in our vans. There are no food stops during our tour.
There are toilets located close to our pickup point and at our private farm.
Will you make it back to your ship on time?

Our cruise-day departures are carefully scheduled around the arrival and departure times of visiting cruise ships. Cruise-friendly tour departures are clearly identified when booking through our website.

When you book directly with Clearwater Wildlife Tours, you receive additional protection designed specifically for cruise travellers. If you are unable to join your tour because your ship is delayed or does not dock, we’ll provide a full refund.
This policy applies only to bookings made directly though the Clearwater Wildlife Tours website. Bookings made through third-party agents, cruise operators or online booking platforms remain subject to our standard 24-hour cancellation policy.
Cruise Passenger: FAQs
Can I be collected from the port for a Dunedin wildlife tour?
No. Our scheduled Wild One Tour does not collect passengers from the cruise terminal at Port Chalmers. Port Chalmers is a 25-minute drive from our departure point, so collection from the terminal is not possible. Cruise lines run dedicated buses into central Dunedin at a small cost. Please arrange this through your ship. If you would like to be collected at the terminal, our five-hour Wild Private Tour has been specifically designed for this added convenience.
How do I get from Port Chalmers to the tour departure point?
Cruise lines run dedicated buses from the Port Chalmers cruise terminal into central Dunedin at a small cost, and the trip takes around 25 minutes. This can be arranged through your ship before arrival into Dunedin. We meet at 50 The Octagon, outside the Dunedin i-SITE Visitor Centre, and you should allow 90 minutes from disembarkation to tour departure so there is allowance for queues and traffic. Learn more.
Will I make it back to my cruise ship in time?
Yes. Our cruise-day tours are timed to leave you plenty of time to return to your ship after the tour finishes, and we keep a close watch on sailing times. If your ship cannot dock or is delayed, let us know at least two hours before your tour start time and we will refund your booking. This applies to bookings made directly with us; bookings made through TripAdvisor, Get Your Guide or another platform follow our standard 24-hour cancellation policy.
How can I see wildlife in Dunedin on a cruise ship day?
On a cruise ship day you can join our four-hour, land-based wildlife tour, with no second boat needed. You can see yellow-eyed penguins, sea lions and fur seals on private coastal land, and the tour is timed to leave you two hours to get back to your ship. Your cruise line arranges transport from the ship to our departure point at The Octagon, so allow 90 minutes from disembarkation to tour departure.
