This is in a rural area of the Otago Peninsula. Self-drive transport is necessary for this collection option.
What you will miss
Pickup at Hooper’s Inlet occurs 45 minutes after schedule tour departure and excludes much of the drive from central Dunedin to our private farm and conservation area.
For guests departing from the Octagon, the journey out includes an introduction to Dunedin’s history, heritage, and the changes in the local environment over time. We use this time to provide some context around the landscape you see, including pre-human ecology, early human arrivals, and European settlement. While this information is good context, it is not essential to enjoying the tour itself.
By the time our tour reaches Hooper’s Inlet, the discussion is usually about local wading birds. Your guide will also provide a brief summary of the topics covered earlier, so you won’t miss out on the key points.
